Jaime de los Santos, member of the Assembly of Madrid, was the guest speaker at the conference prior to the traditional Alumni Christmas Cup organized by ISEM Fashion Business School, which was attended by more than a hundred alumni. During the Meeting, the exhibition "Los lenguajes del Sombrero" was also inaugurated with pieces by the milliners Pablo and Mayaya.
In addition to having an important political career (until August 2019 he held the position of Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Community of Madrid), Jaime de los Santos is an expert in Art and Culture, and, above all, a lover of Fashion. During his time at the Ministry, the visibility of fashion in museums was boosted with exhibitions as important as 'Modus. A la manera de España', in the Canal de Isabel II Hall, which included pieces by Balenciaga, Fortuny and Paco Rabanne, among others; or the exhibitions dedicated to Jesús Del Pozo and Pertegaz.
In the session he gave at ISEM, De los Santos made a brief tour through the history of fashion, revealing several curiosities from previous centuries and emphasizing that "human beings have the need to communicate, so they use fashion to tell stories.
The Languages of the Hat
In addition, the Alumni ISEM Christmas Cup had a surprise for all attendees: the inauguration of the exhibition "The Languages of the Hat". With more than 50 hats handcrafted by the Valladolid firm Pablo y Mayaya, each piece tells its own story.
Among them is a piece that symbolizes the goddesses Castor and Pollux from Greek mythology; twins, sons of Zeus, with a particularity: one is mortal and the other immortal. This piece, created exclusively for the exhibition, represents the "mortal side" through flowers and earth colors; and the "immortal side" through stars and the color blue. Both sides are united at the top of the piece, "in their ascent to Olympus".
The exhibition will be open to the general public until March 2020 at ISEM Fashion Business School.
