Consuelo Luca de Tena was the protagonist of the VIII cultural colloquium of ISEM Fashion Business School. During her lecture, the director of the Sorolla Museum in Madrid explained the exhibition 'Fiesta y color' currently hosted by this space.
Sorolla's ethnographic gaze explores a new facet of the artist, that of a compiler of popular or picturesque costumes. The great commission to decorate the Library of the Hispanic Society led him to travel all over the country in search of the most authentic and picturesque Spanish character, which was then found among the people of rural areas, those who still kept intact the ancestral customs and traditions.
In addition, during these trips, which were intended to find reliable inspiration for his large paintings, he acquired a small but very interesting collection of popular clothing and jewelry.
The exhibition brings together 25 pieces of paintings (figures and landscapes) and 9 sets of clothing, as well as jewelry corresponding to each set, and a selection of photographs and letters.
Consuelo Luca de Tena holds a degree in Philosophy and Arts (specializing in Art History) from the Complutense University of Madrid.
In 1990 she began to collaborate with the Ministry of Culture as Exhibitions Coordinator. Later, she obtained a scholarship from the Ministry to study Museology at George Washington University.
In 2001 she joined the Faculty of Museum Curators. He worked in the General Subdirectorate of State Museums, where he was in charge of the management of several museographic projects.
In 2010 he was appointed director of the Sorolla Museum by public competition.
